Museums in Flagstaff!

Flagstaff is the quintessential Western American town. A significant portion of this chapter of Flagstaff's history is preserved at the Pioneer Museum. The Museum itself is located in a historic building, the original Coconino Hospital for the Indigent, which was constructed in 1908. The Pioneer Museum collection preserves over 10,000 artifacts from the earliest era of Flagstaff's establishment and settlement, featuring period clothing, tools, household goods, toys, textiles, medical instruments, vehicles, farm machinery and much more. The grandest piece of this collection is a 1929 steam-powered locomotive which is on display in front of the museum. One of the most popular yearly events at the Museum is its "Playthings of the Past" exhibition, featuring games and toys from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The Pioneer Museum also maintains extensive archives, written records, books, and photographs that document and bring to life early Flagstaff.

The Pioneer Museum is located on North Fort Valley Road, next to Sechrist Elementary School. It is the headquarters of the Northern Division of the Arizona Historical Society, and is open to the public.
